3. Why do my pipes bang when I turn off a tap?
This banging noise is commonly known as water hammer. It happens when moving water abruptly stops, causing the pipes to shake. It is usually caused by unanchored, loose pipework or worn tap valves or high pressure.
I smell gas, do I have a leak?
If you suspect a gas leak, turn off your main gas valve located in the gas meter box, call a licensed gasfitter to carry out all necessary tests and checks. Do not attempt to carry out gas work if you are not a professional.
What would cause a toilet to continuously keep filling the cistern on the wall?
A faulty inlet valve or worn seating washer may cause your toilet to fill continuously. Not only is this continuous flushing noisy, but it will increase your water consumption. If you experience this, shut off the cistern isolation valve and call a licensed plumber.
What are the warning signs of a failing roof?
Look out for water stains on your ceiling, peeling paint near the eaves, moss buildup, loose or cracked tiles, and visible rust on metal sheets
